My disclaimer: I agreed to have my own page only after being encouraged by my husband. I love being the mother of a large family, but do not consider myself an expert. My parenting skills are a work in progress and there are many good parenting styles different than my own.

How do you do it?

This is “the big question” that I am repeatedly asked. Thankfully being the mother of seven children did not happen overnight. We often joke, "Pregnancy is nine months,

because it takes that long to get ready".

I was probably more stressed and frazzled when we just had two children. I would beat myself up agonizing over decisions. I’ve done better since I’ve focused more on the fact I just love them.

Here are some of our keys to enjoying our family

Ask kids to help - Our children four years and up have daily chores and are asked to pitch in when needed.

Stay organized - Keep a calender and plan ahead. I must do some laundry everyday and try to stay ahead.

Eat at home - Eating out takes longer, cost more and is not what we want to feed our family.

Wake up before children - I’m a better mother when I wake up early. Fifteen minutes of quiet time to gather my thoughts before the chaos begins help me prepare for a busy morning.

Running - Running is my escape and I run most days.

Quiet time - Greg and I spend a minimum 15 minutes together each day. A strong marriage is an essential foundation for a strong family.

Love it - Enjoy every stage and focus on the fact you love them.

Sling / Maya Wrap

I purchased my first Maya wrap brand sling after the birth of our fourth child. I took me a couple of weeks to be comfortable with it, but I now see it as essential. I wish I had used it with all my children.

We previously had used the Baby Bjorn. The Bjorn was not as comfortable for child or parent. In the sling, if a child falls asleep they can easily be laid down. The Bjorn does not allow for as smooth a transition to lay children down.

My sling allows me to fold clothes and prepare dinner while holding a child. I use it with our children from birth until about 2 years of age. Its great for comforting a fussy infant or with a toddler that just wants to be held. If your buying a sling, I’d recommend one with a pocket.
