Rotavirus Immunization

Rototeq

The Rotovirus vaccine is different from the already mentioned vaccines for two reasons: (1) it is given as a drink (no shots) and ) (2) it is not a required vaccination.

Rotovirus is what my parents called the stomach flu. This virus typically causes the worst cases of vomiting, diarrhea and fever. Children often become dehydrated when they contract this illness.

The current rotovirus vaccine was approved by the FDA in February 2006. Listed side effects in upset stomach and diarrhea. I personally have seen two cases of bloody diarrhea likely caused by the vaccine. My two youngest boys (my only children young enough to receive the vaccine) tolerated it well.

Diarrhea after Rototeq

My baby is 10 weeks old. she got her shots and rototaq last friday. Since 2 days she is vomiting a lot ( 10-20ml, 2 or 3 times after each feeding), sometimes it is forceful and she cries after vomiting when it is forceful. (... more on Diarrhea after Rototeq)
